For a young person, writing a CV can be a daunting experience, especially when they have no or limited work experience. Add to this, often poorly thought out job searching strategies and the ever growing number of websites circling like vultures, all trying to make it easier and easier to apply for jobs to beat the competition. The end result is more often than not, failure, rejection, loss of confidence, lower self-esteem, lack of self-belief.

CVs should be written by the individual, you wouldn’t turn up to an interview wearing a suit that doesn’t fit, which is why ‘CVs that open doors’ is run over two sessions.

Session one explains how the application process works, what the algorithm is looking for, and what hiring managers and industries are looking for too. With this new found knowledge, the rest of the session focusses on each element of the CV in relation to the young person, showing them how to get creative, how to really sell themselves, as well as the theory behind an overall marketing strategy. The young person then takes accountability and creates their CV by themselves, for themselves.

Session two reviews their CV, makes any necessary changes, and then clarifies their understanding of the processes and of the strategies they need in order to be successful.

Writing someone’s CV for them only compounds the problem. Showing them how to write their CV, aligning it to their job searching strategy and tailoring all of that to their overall aspirations… is truly empowering.
